Thomson Reuters recently announced plans to augment their existing operations in downtown Toronto by adding 400 jobs over the next two years, part of an ongoing expansion in Canada that could potentially create up to 1,500 jobs in the future.
Located in Toronto since Thomson acquired Reuters in 2008, the company’s headquarters will now be home to key members of the previously US based senior executive team, including the chief executive and chief financial officers, with more to come as the company expands.
The constant supply of talented technology graduates from Ontario Universities and comparable ease of immigrating skilled workers to Canada (compared with the US) has been credited as strong motivators for Reuters’ expansion plans in the city.
Reuters’ choice of Toronto for this power shift within the company reinforces the appeal of Canada’s largest city as a top-tier locale to work and live.
