According to the 2018 State of the County Address by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Miami broke several existing tourism and travel records in 2017. Port Miami welcomed approximately 5.3 million cruise passengers last year, approximately a million more passengers annually than any other port worldwide. Meanwhile, Miami International Airport began providing services to seven new passenger airlines and four cargo carriers for a total of 106 airlines operating at MIA – the most airlines of any U.S. airport. In addition, Miami Dade County welcomed a record-breaking 15.8 million overnight visitors in 2017, who contributed $25.9 billion to the local economy. 2017 was a strong year for the Miami Dade county despite challenges such as Hurricane Irma, a testament to the region’s resilience and global appeal as a tourist destination.
