Canada is the 25th most expensive location by country according to Cushman & Wakefield’s 2017 Main Streets Across the World report, with Toronto’s Bloor Street ranking as the 6th most expensive street in the Americas. The Mink Mile retained its position on the Americas ranking from 2016 to 2017, even though the average annual rent per square foot decreased 7.6% over the same period.
According to the report, “Canadian retailers are exploring change with a new urgency, from concept, to store experience, to location, including seeking out new formats in ‘cool-street’ areas to buffer or replace traditional high-street locations.” This focus on “cool-street” areas aptly describes commercial development happening just north of Bloor Street in Yorkville, including the recent opening of the Chanel flagship store across from Greybrook’s 101 Yorkville development. We also included a profile in Greybrook Magazine of more development to come in the area, including the first standalone Jimmy Choo boutique in Toronto at 99 Yorkville.
