What started as a personal mission to find a cure for a rare and fatal genetic disorder called Tay-Sachs disease soon became a larger vision of raising funds and awareness to advance gene therapy and find a cure for genetic disorders. Proceeds from this year’s Velo Blu Pedal for Blu Genes went directly to help furthering Tay-Sachs research at SickKids. These donations will enable SickKids to fund a dedicated team of experts to focus their scientific expertise and the power of CRISPR/ Cas9 (gene technology’s sharpest tools), on the mutations of Tay-Sachs disease with the goal of correcting disease-causing mutations. This ground-breaking research may make the dream of curing inherited diseases like Tay-Sachs come true. These therapeutic strategies have taken decades to develop to this point of investigation, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to support the advancement of research that could be the key to a cure.

The real estate, finance, and development community came together once again in support of this important cause and we at Greybrook are proud to have sponsored and chaired the Velo Blu organizing committee to support such an inspiring event. Avid and recreational cyclists took to the scenic routes of Niagara-on-the-Lake to show their support and returned to the finish line on the grounds of Peller Estates Winery to celebrate the accomplishments in this area of research supported by BLU GENES.

As active members of the BLU GENES foundation we would like to extend a special thank you to all supporters, volunteers, other sponsors, and friends and family for helping make a difference.
