On June 2nd, the 3rd annual Bike for Brain Health saw thousands of participants, including a team from Greybrook, ride the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway traffic free to raise money for the Baycrest Foundation’s fight to defeat dementia.
The team helped raise funds for Baycrest, helping to continue research, innovation, care, and education in the field of aging and brain health. Funds raised for the Bike for Brain Health are used to provide crucial funding for breakthrough research into cognition, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and aging brain health. They also help support medical programs and services for older adults living in our community; and education that fosters healthy aging and healthcare solutions for a growing aging population.
Canada’s largest 1-day cycling event, aims to inspire Canadians to embrace an active lifestyle to improve their brain health. The event catered to both recreational and endurance riders, offering a selection of three distinct routes: 25km, 50km, and 75km.
Baycrest is a hub for more than 300 researchers working to prevent, detect and treat dementia across Canada. According to the foundation, nearly 1.1 million Canadians are directly or indirectly impacted by dementia. While dementia is a disease without a cure, research shows that just 150 minutes of exercise per week helps delay the onset of Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
