Strong demand and limited supply for housing continues to beleaguer prospective homebuyers in the GTA as the region’s population increases by more than 100,000 residents each year. Thanks to the results of Statistics Canada’s 2016 Census of Population, it’s easy to see which communities have seen the highest influx of new residents in the Toronto Census Metropolitan Area (CMA).
The map above shows the population change by percentage increase between the 2011 and 2016 censuses. The Toronto CMA saw an increase of 6.2% in population compared to the 5% increase nationally, while the Shelburne region boasted a staggering 39% increase in population followed by Milton (30.5%), Bradford West Gwillimbury (25.8%), King (23.2%), and Whitchurch-Stouffville (21.8%).
