The 5th Annual Velo Blu Pedal for Blu Genes charity ride took place on September 13th, attracting over 140 enthusiastic participants. This year’s event not only boasted an impressive turnout but also welcomed new sponsors, collectively raising more than $400,000 to advance gene therapy research for rare genetic diseases.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Peller Estates Winery, Velo Blu offered a variety of cycling routes and challenges, ensuring a fulfilling experience for all participants. Each mile pedalled contributed directly to the advancement of vital gene therapy research for rare diseases. The funds raised will significantly propel innovative treatments forward, providing hope to many families.
The donations raised during this event will empower SickKids to assemble a dedicated team of experts who will harness the power of CRISPR/Cas9—the most advanced tools in gene technology—to specifically target and correct the mutations responsible for Tay-Sachs disease. This groundbreaking research holds the promise of transforming the dream of curing inherited diseases like Tay-Sachs into a tangible reality.
As dedicated members of the Blu Genes Foundation and proud sponsors of this initiative, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters.
