According to Moneysense Magazine, Oakville, Ontario was ranked as the best place to live in Canada for 2018. The affluent and diverse town made the top spot in part due to its connections to the strong Toronto job market, increasing diversity and small-town feel with convenient access to the city. Oakville boasts an average household income of $162,000 (tenth highest in Canada), and an average value of primary residence of $1.2 Million (thirteenth highest in Canada), according to 2017 Statistics Canada and Environics Analytics data. It is also home to the world-famous Glen Abbey Golf Club.
While these metrics focus on Oakville’s affluence, other metrics demonstrate Oakville’s livability and appeal. Over the past 10 years the percentage of visible minorities in Oakville has risen to 31%, with many new families flocking towards new high-density townhouse developments after being priced out of other areas. When asked about what makes Oakville special Mayor Burton said “the key to Oakville’s success is maintaining a small-town sense of community, even as the city’s population breaks 200,000.”
