In June, the City of Hamilton approved the Waterfront Shores Corporation’s Pier 8 proposal as the preferred proponent for the waterfront revitalization of Hamilton’s West Harbour. Historically utilized for industrial and commercial purposes, the West Harbour redevelopment has already seen investments of almost $2 billion by both the public and private sectors in order to remediate the harbour, enhance water quality, and restore the environmental ecosystem. With bids submitted by some of the region’s largest developers, the Pier 8 development opportunity RFP process is the latest step in revitalizing 5.24 hectares of waterfront into a mixed-use development with ample public amenities and green spaces.
The Waterfront Shores Corporation is comprised of Greybrook Realty Partners, Cityzen Development Corporation, Fernbrook Homes Group and GFL Environmental Inc. Designed by Bruce Kuwabara of KPMB Architects, an architect hailing from the north side of Hamilton, the development site will consist of 1292 new condominium units, 65 affordable housing townhouses as well as nine institutional blocks. Pier 8 will be a unique and innovative community with vibrant landmarks and amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy, and we are happy to have played a role in this revitalization effort in the City of Hamilton.
